Online booking for your hair or beauty salon: what to look for

22 October 2026 · 4 min read

Fewer phone calls and fewer no-shows. How to choose a booking system that fits your salon, without being tied to a platform.

More and more customers prefer to book in the evening on their phone. With online booking you no longer miss those customers, and you answer the phone less often while you are cutting hair. But systems differ a lot.

Your own booking system or a platform?

A large booking platform can give you extra reach, but you often pay per appointment or per month, and the platform also shows your customers other salons. With booking on your own website the customer stays with you and you pay no commission per appointment.

What the system should do

  • Set your own services, duration and prices, per staff member.
  • Manage your own schedule, days off and breaks.
  • Automatic confirmation and reminder by email, so customers do not forget their appointment.
  • Clear cancellation rules, for example free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
  • Work well on a phone, because that is where most customers book.

Reducing no-shows

A reminder one day in advance already helps a lot. To go further, you can ask new customers or long treatments for a deposit. Show your cancellation rules clearly when booking, so the customer knows where they stand.

Privacy

You store names, phone numbers and sometimes notes about treatments. Only ask for what you need, have a privacy statement and choose a system that stores the data securely.
